Trans Dinarica Cycle Route: A Journey Through the Western Balkans
• Exhibitor: Trans Dinarica Cycle Route
• Stand: Hall 4.1 | 200
The Trans Dinarica is the first cycle route connecting all eight countries of the Western Balkans. The route, completed at the end of 2024, links Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Importantly, it also connects people, cultures, communities, travelers, and helps to develop the region’s sustainable tourism industry in the process. The 95-stage, 5,000-kilometer route prioritizes national parks and shines a light on the fragile nature of this corner of southeastern Europe, especially the rivers and the ecosystems leading to lakes, through valleys, deltas, and reserves.
The aim of the route is to provide a new and sustainable (environmentally and economically) perspective on the heritage of the Western Balkans, while connecting hundreds of communities along the way. The cultural corridor will become the basis of a myriad of yet-to-be-imagined business, services, and legitimate reasons for locals to stay or return to their homes and promote community-based tourism.
By connecting countries and cultures along one easy-to-follow route, the Trans Dinarica has made it simple (with free information) for adventurers to make the choice to travel responsibly with intention to give the communities along the way the respect they deserve. For many new cyclists looking for the next challenge, the Trans Dinarica represents a well-curated path to learn more about the area's strengths. Ultimately, the aim of the Trans Dinarica, which also links country capitals with remote villages, is to promote sustainable practices so residents can develop cycling-friendly services and showcase their cultural, historical, and natural sites.
